09/08/10

10/08/2010

See? a lil bit of progress so far! and the only real difference i've made is:
-Moisturizing and sealing everynight (well, most nights)
-washing more often
-and the products i use.

not too drastic.

I know somebody is probably looking at this like 'thats not much', but its my hair and i'm proud of my progress so far. I don't plan on being this length for too long.

-and for refrence, i can start buying products again next thursday.

Find the Right Hair Products for You.

This is an easy way to find hair products to get the hair you need. Follow this step-by-step guide and you'll never buy a bad hair product again!

-Look it up. Look up reviews from a lot of different sources like youtube.com, hairlista.com, sallybeauty.com, amazon.com and reviews like that from actual people. Not from commericals.

-Only get what your hair needs. If you think your hair is dry then look for a good moisturizer or deep conditioner. Buy things because i need it- not because you want it. Otherwise you might turn into a product junkie.

-If its a good company- If you had good luck with that company before, you most likely will have good luck with that company again. Don't buy something from a company that gave you bad results before.

-Buy the full line of products- Most companies make their products to work together. If you use the full line of products then you most likely will have better results than just picking a few.

UGHH! I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR TO SCHOOL TODAY! :(

If you think your closet is boring and you feel like you're always wearing the same clothes over and over again then this is for you. Or if you're needing a new style for the first day of school, then this is also for you.

The easiest way to pick an outfit is to re-create one.
What to do:
google a style icon- (Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, ect.)
find pieces of clothes that are similar to what they were wearing.

Boots- Cutesygirl.com- $36.99

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet Almond Oil is an amazing oil that I 'discovered' this week. I started putting it in my scalp when my braids were itchy and it moisturized my scalp and the itching stopped. Then I mixed one drop into my moisturizer everyday and night and noticed smoother skin within a few days. It is a great oil and I hope you pick some up soon.
Some people may be reading and saying "I have oily skin so this wouldn't work for me". Actually, SAO works for all skin types. I have combination skin and it works just fine for me. As long as you rub it into your skin very well, then your skin won't be any oilier.

F a c t s :
-gets rid of under eye circles/wrinkles
-is good for facial moisturizing
-is good for chapped lips
-rich in Vitamin E
-reduce the number and delays the appearence of fine lines and wrinkles
-prevents acne
-will lighten dark spots
-heals sun burns
-not greasy
-no strong smell
-used to treat dry skin (although you can use it on any skin type)
-massage oil
-refirigerate after opening
-can stain clothing and sheets
-not for people with nut allgergies

Braid Care and updated new regimen.

since I have braids now, my regimen is different for how i take care of my hair. I have been trying different products and this is what I think of them

Hollywood's beauty Olive Oil- around 3 dollars
5 stars- this stuff stops my hair from itching completly.

Organics Itch Relief $4- hair supply stores
mm..this stuff is okay. it makes your hair smell like bubble gum but besides that I wouldn't reccomend it. 2 stars.

Now Personal Care Jojoba Oil-GNC- $10
I don't se this oil too often. I think I'll use it more when I take down my braids. 3 stars.
Now Personal Care Sweet Almond Oil-GNC-$10
I LOVE this stuff. It makes my hair not itch and not so dry. I've been using it for a few days and I've noticed how much more moisturized my hair is.

Honey Pre-Poo review

Pre Poo is when u put conditioner and moister on your hair and let it sit for 30 min to an hour before you shampoo your hair.To strengthen and moisturize long beautiful hair, as well as short hair.

So yesterday, I tried the honey pre-poo for the first time. What I did was dampened my hair with water then put honey on it. My har wasn't sticky, but it did smell like honey. I then put on a shower cap and left it on for 30 minutes.
Doing this is supposed to make your hair super-soft.
I guess I was expecting too much because my hair wasn't as soft as I was hoping. Maybe next time I should put more honey in my hair and leave it on for an hour.

I just became apart of a website called hairlista.com. It seems like a good website. I heard that it gives tips on hair from other users. (like facebook-but for hair). If you click on the title, (hairlista), will take you to the hairlista homepage. check it out.

Braid Out part 2

So today I finished my braid out. I slept with my durag like I said I would. Its not exactly what I was looking for, but I'm happy with the results. Its kind of a small-curly afro and I think its really pretty. It gives me the natural-look without having to go natural. Check out my youtube videos about my braid out.
Just took out the braids:

Braid Out

Until I get my senglese twists, I wanted to try something new with my hair: a braid out. Braid outs are something new to me. This is my first time attempting them so this is what I did:

-I washed it then deeeeep conditioned it with Aussie's 3 minute miracle deeeeep conditioner. (it says three minutes but i left it in for 7-8)
-Put in Pantene Relaxed and Natural daily oil cream moisturizer
-braided using a spray bottle so my hair can stay damp while i was braiding.
-now I'm going to sleep with a durag. (in the morning i'll write about how it looks.)

Pictures:
Clipped my hair up so it would be out of my way.

A couple of my medium sized braids. (there was less than 20 in my whole head!)

Products And tools Used:
left to right: pantene daily oil cream moisturizer, Aussie 3 minute miracle, motions wrap lotion (put it on the hair the braided it), Duckbill clips-sallybeauty.com ($2.49 for a pack of six), Tool Structure Tortise Large handle Comb-sallybeauty.com ($2.79)

My Hair Journey

For almost a year I've been trying to perfect my hair regemin. I always wore my hair in a frizzy ponytail and I hated it. It wasn't until my tenth grade year that I really started to take good care of my hair. Once I started treating it well, it treated me well.
this is a picture of me during the first week of tenth grade. I thought my hair was so long and pretty when I took this picture. look my split and choppy ends. --->

(August, 2009)

Then, my hair started growing and I loved it. it grew a little bit longer than this. After my hair grew, I don't really know what went wrong. I guess I didn't take enough care of it or it got use to my routine but it started breaking off again. So now I'm trying a new routine after I take out my braids. This is what I want to start doing to my hair:

"Pre-Pooing" with honey*-putting 100% honey (from the grocery store) on my damp hair, then putting on a shower cap, after that sitting under the dryer for 30-minutes to an hour.

Rinse- Luke Warm Water (the colder the better-hot water dries hair)

Washing--Shampooing twice, conditioning (I haven't figured out which shampoo and conditioner I'm going to use, most likely something made by silk elements). Then adding Silk Elements glossing polish.-$7.49

Deep Conditioning*- Silk elements Megasilk moisture treatment-sallybeauty.com-$10.99 OR Aussie 3 minute miracle treatment-Drugstores-$3.99

Blowdrying- Jilbere Ceramic Xtreme Professional 2000W Hair Dryer-Sallybeauty.com- $24.99

Pantene Pro-V Relaxed and natural Daily Oil Cream Moisturizer++-Target Stores- About $4

Flat iron- GVP ceramic Flat Iron-Sallybeauty.com- 69.99 (goes on sale A LOT for $59.99)

*=something new I'm trying.
++=Secret Weapon
Products: (w/o honey, shampoo or conditioner)

Appliances:

not mentioned or pictured:
wide-tooth comb
brush
oil sheen
silk elements heat protectant
NOTES:
All silk elements products are at Sally's Beauty Supply.

In my current regemin I use a lot of different brands,
but this is my first time using mostly the same brand. (silk elements)

iLove Toy Story 3!!!

Ever since I was younger I've LOVED disney movies. Specifically Pixar. From the old school 'A Bug's Life' to the newer movies like 'Ratatoullie' and 'Cars'.
About last week I watched 'Toy Story 3' for the first time. I laughed, I (almost) cried and thought it was amazing. When they first said they was coming out with a third 'Toy Story', I thought it was unnecessary. Honestly, do the kids 8 and under now-a-days even know who Woody and Buzz are? Maybe not but I aint mad that they made the third movie.
The plot is about Woody Buzz and the rest of the toys going to a daycare after Andy (the toys owner) goes to college.

As much as I would like to elaborate on the twists and turns, laughs and cries--I don't want to give away the movie.

Can't get to the movies? go to watch-movies.net, type 'Toy Story 3' into the search bar and enjoy the movie!

Rihanna's New Firey Hair

I love the risks Rihanna takes with her hair and style. She started off with sweet girl-next-door long brown tresses. Then she cut her hair, dyed it black and rocked a faux-hawk for the majority of 2008-2009. However, currently she decided to debut her new hair: the same faux-hawk but dyed RED. I loved the long brown hair. I adored the short black hair. But red hair? Hmm... I'll have to think about that one. In my opinion it's not really working. However, I was one of the sceptecs when she first cut it off. Rihanna was one of those people who I thought could pull off any look better than anyone before. But when I saw these pictures, she definantly changed my opinion. I still love Rihanna, her song 'Rockstar 101' is DEF gonna be one of my summer favs... but her hair is not. :/ I'm hoping she's going to work it like she did with her short hair. Hopefully she won't be wearing the bowl cut like she was in the above picture. But with Rihanna you never really know what to expect next. Maybe next week she'll be wearing long yellow hair with orange polka dots.

Shopping Online 101

yesterday i bought a pink purse from a store called 'Mandees' online. I know that a lot of people are scared to shop online becuase of scams and other things like that.

ways to know if a store is legit or not:
1. if its an actual store.
*places that are actual stores have reputations that they want to keep up with- so places like deb and charlotte russe wouldn't want to ruin their reputation because their a scam online.
2. look it up
*some people do reviews on things that they bought online on youtube. other people talk about it on places like Yahoo! Answers. So places like 599fashion.com--although they sound too good to be true, aren't.

What i like about shopping online is that you can get cute stuff that from stores that aren't near you so nobody else will be wearing the same things. But you can easily run into scams and get cheated out of your money so be careful.

Make it Your Own: Personal Style

whether i like the clothes someone wears or not, i always have to respect their personal style. if someone wants to wear blue shoes with a brown shirt and leather pants-who am i to judge?

when someone expresses thier personality through their clothes, its called 'personal style'. You can show your bohemian laid-back attitude by wearing neutral-colored long flowy dresses and cardigans, or show your indian roots by wearing a multi-colored sari and a bindi on your forehead.

however, personal style should belong to you. it should reflect who you are. therefore, copying someone else's style is not okay.

Swagger Jacker: someone who steals or copies someone elses style, slang, way of dress, ect. and passes it it for their own.

In the picture to your right, you can see how this girl is 'swagger jacking' Nicki Minaj. Check it out:
Black and pink two-toned hair, pink bra peeking through a black tank top, and the pants are (almost) identical.

Bottom Line of personal style: be yourself and not someone else.

Welcome to Epiphany:)

You might be wondering what is Epiphany and where did this dream come from?

Epiphany Magazine(EM)is a magazine that i hope to own in the future. (a print magazine, not online) It all started b/c on christmas, 2008 my mom gave me my first magazine subscription to 'Seventeen Magazine'. I loved reading it every month and it sparked my love for fashion. (along with watching 'The Tyra Banks Show' every day...but thats another story). But, when it came to hair and makeup--it was mostly for white girls so the tips they had for hair most likely wouldn't work for me. (not being racist, but its no secret that black and white people have different hair). so one day, i had an epiphany (hence the magaline name) that i should own my own hair magazine and help other girls of color who want to look cute. :) not that this is a 'colored only' magazine (that's so last century), but in my opinion white girls have enough magazines to choose from. (hey, i never said i was politically correct).

so this is my gift to the world and i hope that reading EM will be your first place to look for whats in style and hair care tips.

soo...this is what i will be talking about:
*Hair
*Nails
*Fashion
*Boys and Relationships
*Best Workouts
*Friends
*Polls
*Food
*Reviews and Tutorials
**and SOOO much more!
